SONA 2013: Philippine Fashion Collides with Politics

It’s the national equivalent of a Hollywood red carpet event: that time of the year when fashion designers and now, fashion stylists, spend sleepless nights preparing for that unforgettable outfit. Call it the SONA fashion show, that once a year happening where Politicians and celebrities are expected to make a fashion statement.

This year's State of the Nation Address (SONA) that was held last Monday 23 July, 2013 afternoon at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City. The dress code at the Batasang Pambansa for the SONA is quite tricky—there are only so many fashionable ways to wear the barong, baro’t saya, Filipiniana, and Maria Clara while still keeping to the formality of the event. Despite the emergence of new designs each year, the classic terno (primarily composed of a blouse, long skirt and a shawl) remains a mainstay in the so-called SONA red carpet of Philippine Fashion. Check out the following photos taken at the SONA 2013.
