Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago teams up with Team Manila

This is one Philippine Fashion team-up that we thought would never happen. One of the country's most interesting and outspoken (not to mention controversial) elected officials is securing her place in Pinoy pop culture by teaming up with local clothing brand Team Manila
Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago—who's known for her acerbic one-liners, as well as crafting tongue-in-cheek pick-up lines that she uses as icebreakers—will soon be "immortalized" through T-shirts. We first got wind of this collaboration when we saw Team Manila's August 23 post on the senator's Facebook page.
The Team Manila post was accompanied by a photo that also appears on Team Manila's website.Interestingly enough, as the Team Manila teaser announces (or hints), the Miriam shirts will feature her now-famous pick-up lines. The Miriam shirts, which will be available sometime in September, are tagged as "online exclusives."

With this development, we can't help but wonder if other Pinoy politicians will embark on their own fashion ventures. If Erap Estrada is on "joke books" and Santiago is on shirts, can President Noynoy Aquino eyeglass frames be far behind? Or, how about Senator Tito Sotto mustache grooming kits? The possibilities are endless.

SOLO Pinoy Cartoonist Memorabilla feat. Tonton Young’s Pupung

National Heroes Day is fast coming, and as a Filipino how do you show your Nationalism. Well nothing to worry because SOLO never failed to give us nostalgic attack with its Pinoy Cartoonist Memorabilia Series. Yearly, Solo pays tribute to Pinoy Pop Culture with homegrown Pinoy iconic cartoonists. Solo brought us back to the heyday of Filipino comics when komiks magasins used to be a big form of entertainment of most Pinoys. The creative collection spearheaded with the playful and witty characters of Larry Alcala’s Slice of Life in 2010, followed by no less than the greatest work of the Father of Filipino Cartoons, Tony Velasquez’s Kenkoy in 2011. This year, their Philippine Fashion series proudly features Tonton Young’s Pupung.
How do you best remember Pupung? It could be his family’s lugawan and their hilarious adventures that reflects the typical Pinoy family. Pupung is a lovable kid in the comics created by Tonton Young in 1983. The strip revolves around the family of Pupung and their hilarious adventures. The comics strip focuses on Philippine pop culture, fascination with basketball as well as business trends and rarely tackles political issues. Pupung became popular for its punchlines and the humor used in the strip is lighter than other Filipino comic strips which gives it a family-oriented theme. Up to this day, Pupung appears in Manila Bulletin and continues to make Pinoys laugh everyday. Pupung and all your fave characters from the strip, Mommy, Daddy, Lolo Dom, Day, Jordan, Lelong and Larry Bird will be immortalized in a pop collection!
The most-loved Solo’s Pinoy Cartoonist Memorabilia Series takes Pupung and puts in on His&Hers graphic tees, popular varsity jackets, polo shirts, woven tops and dresses, men’s long sleeves and shorts and adorable accessories such as necklaces, toilety pouches and coffee ceramic cups with covers. The collection hits the stores in September. Perfect for fun wearable collectibles as Christmas gifts. Here's the brief information for those who doesn't know Pupung;

Pupung was created in 1983 by Tonton Young and he was real. The real-life Pupung is Tonton’s 6-year old nephew, Jeff Young with a nickname Pupung. He chose the name Pupung for his comic strip title because it sounds cartoon. Pupung dad’s was created after his likeness in basketball. Just like Daddy, Tonton is a big basketball fan and was a self-confessed basketball buff during his teen years. The comics strip revolves around the family of Pupung and their hilarious adventures. The story is based on Tonton’s everyday life, tending to his family’s restaurant business (like Lolo Dom and Dad), play basketball on weekends (just like all the characters in Pupung). The comics strip focuses on Philippine pop culture, fascination with basketball as well as business trends and rarely tackles political issues. Pupung became popular for its punchlines and the humor used in the strip is lighter than other Filipino comic strips which gives it a family-oriented theme. Up to this day, Pupung appears in Manila Bulletin and continues to make Pinoys laugh everyday

The Lookbook Fashion Event at SM City Fairview

Each year, SM City Fairview holds a fashion show that aims to promote mall’s fashion retail stores and to brand SM City Fairview as a fashion haven of the North East Metro in the long term. For this year, SM City Fairview will be taking it a notch higher by staging again a major fashion show to be dubbed as “Lookbook” on August 24, 2012, 6pm at the Annex Atrium, SM City Fairview. This will be a good news for every Philippine Fashion enthusiast out there.
The “Lookbook” Fashion Event will revolve around fashion trends of the season in diverse styles, statements and inspirations. The over-all concept is hinged towards digital and new media such as Facebook, Instagram, Wordpress, Twitter, etc. which are all meant to be shared.

Why Look Book?
In these times when a day is not complete without checking on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram, communication is everything. And everything is about SHARING. Thus, even the fashion world has embraced this contemporary platform to connect to a wider and younger market - a new accessory for one’s BFF is bought after seeing a stylista’s fashion blog, a pair of shoes is ordered online after being inspired from a model’s tweet.

So a fashion trend is not complete when it does not exist in the realm of social media. A simple outfit becomes a fashion ensemble when one shares it online and gains positive comments. A personal style can be transformed into an online fashion diary and when it creates hype, it becomes a FASHION STATEMENT.

LOOKBOOK; or the online fashion diary is inherently meant to be shared. And the brands featured in one’s Lookbook are the brands that one has chosen to embrace. And by sharing, we let others understand and eventually embrace our brand.

With the help of the finest production crew, stylists and the top models of the country today, it aims to be the biggest fashion event of SM City Fairview to date. The show will feature SM City Fairview’s mix of foreign and local brands and their newest collections such as Celine (CLN), Charlie, Elle Girl, Folded & Hung, Mags, Oxygen, Penshoppe, Plains and Prints, Regatta, Sanuk, Scoop Project, Sketchers, Tomato, Una Rosa, SM Accessories, SM Men’s Fashion – Just Delivered Jeans.

With this good line-up, the event will be sliced into different segments that will echo fun, young and vibrant tones. These are Fashionably Chic, Prep For School, National Party Day and Casual Craze. To jazz-up each of the collection, Philippine Fashion Week Designer and stylist of the stars- Jot Losa will take part in the fashion show as he is tasked to do the styling. SM City Fairview just keeps in getting better and bigger with a wide array of fashion brands making it a perfect spot for the North Metro’s fashionable people.

Sapato Manila - Fashionable Shoes for Filipino Women

Friends since their freshman year in high school, Jen Calma-Sarmiento, Tess Santos, Nikki Yuson-De Guzman and Joyce Crisologo-Mendoza decided to put up Sapato Manila in May 2005. Jen, a dentist by profession and designer at heart, was then starting a bag business and asked her friends if they wanted to go into the shoe business with her. Although coming from various fields like Property Management, Banking and Merchandising, Theresa, Nikki and Joyce immediately jumped in and the four have never looked back.
They aim to provide comfortable and fashionable shoes for all women. Their goal is to come up with a variety of sandals, heels, wedge and flats using different interesting and colorful materials for the women who choose comfort and fashion. Being shoe addicts themselves, Sapato Manila has helped them realize their dream of working together on something they have a shared passion for. It gives them pride that their shoes are 100% Pinoy and that they have helped the local shoe industry in their own little way. More than anything, they emphasize that Sapato Manila is a testament that Filipino craftsmanship is at par with foreign products in the market.

Now on its 7th year, Sapato Manila has over 20 styles in store of flats, sandals, wedges and heels. And every month 5 new styles are launched to keep up with the ever changing trend in Philippine Fashion. Through the years, Sapato Manila built a strong relationship with several brands like Coco and Tres (owned by one of Sapato Manila owners), Frank and Sign, Vida and Via Torino. Thus, giving these brands home in the Sapato Manila store.

At present, Sapato Manila is launching 2 new collections: The T’nalak Collection; and The Sapato Manila Women Collection. T’nalak Collection. T’nalak is a hand-woven abaca fabric made by the women of the women of the T’boli tribe of Mindanao. This highly popular fabric is incorporated with the modern designs of Sapato Manila, giving birth to the “T’nalak Collection”. This collection includes sandals, ballet flats, wedges and heels.

To celebrate Sapato Manila’s 7th year, the owners picked 5 loyal customers to complete the Sapato Manila Women Collection. These women were given freedom to design their own shoes and express their style. This collection is available for every woman to enjoy. For every pair sold, a portion of the profit will be donated to Museo Pambata’s Mobile Library. The money will help support the project and provide children around the Philippines the opportunity to read.
