Fashion Philippines Fashion Takes Part in Hong Kong Fashion Access 2014

Fashion Philippines, a government-initiated branding initiative, will once again participated in the Fashion Access in Hong Kong 2014. The Philippines’ participation is organized by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions, the export promotions arm of the Department of Trade and Industry, in partnership with the Garments and Textile Industry Development Office. Under the Fashion Philippines brand, the participation will be spearheaded by 20 local designers and manufacturers.
As part of CITEM’s continuous bid in helping revive and fortify the Philippine Fashion industry, Fashion Philippines at Fashion Access will focus on the unique design sensibility of the Filipino craftsmen and the range of indigenous materials that the country offers. The country’s tropical location and rich, cultural heritage have blessed it with indigenous materials that range from local textiles such as raffia, banig, and ikat weaves, to natural materials such as shells and animal horns. Under the skillful hands of the Filipino craftsmen, these materials are transformed into high-quality fashion products that highlight their treatment to form, function, and design.

“The Filipino designers and craftsmen continuously challenge the limits of both material and technique. It is not enough to project what the Philippine design is about —they also want to present what Philippine design will be, and could be about. Rich, vibrant, and contemporary fashion accessories and wearables are the signature of Fashion Philippines,” said Rosvi Gaetos, executive director of CITEM.

The local fashion industry is certainly on the rise as it remains to be one of the Philippines’ key export sectors. Keen attention to design details and craftsmanship are its selling points that resonate well with the demands from the international market. With these strengths, there is definitely room for the Philippine fashion industry to become part of the $1.1 trillion global fashion market. With its offerings of top-quality, tropical themed apparel, jewelry, bags and fashion accessories, Fashion Philippines will help establish the country as a number one destination for fashion pieces.

Fashion Access Hong Kong run from March 31 to April 2 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. Fashion Access stands out as the only sourcing hub which showcases "fashion from head to toe," offering international buyers and suppliers a unique venue to discover new products. This bi-annual trade show is organized by APLF, a private international events organizer.
