Giordano Philippines Launches “Denim Now Denim Forever”

Fashion trends come and go, but only one thing remains constant: denim. Since it was invented in 1853, the sturdy fabric has been molded into different fits and styles – bell-bottom, boot cut, bleached, washed, colored. And unique to the denim is how it flatters every person who wears it, from workers to rock stars, cowboys to celebrities; it’s the ultimate staple apparel. True to its long and rich history, the denim jean is designed to last forever.
In celebration of this classic material, Giordano Philippines launches “Denim Now. Denim Forever”. Can be worn by anybody in any season for almost any occasion, the raw and colored denim offered in the collection is available in different fits and styles.

“Denim Now. Denim Forever” underlines the material’s sturdy yet comfortable characteristic. “Compared with last year’s denim collection, this year’s pieces are different in terms of fabrication, thread and pocket design. The styles now have a higher spandex content, thus allowing more movement for the wearer,” said Ella Santos, Giordano Philippines Denim Category Buyer.

In this Philippine Fashion collection, Giordano highlights the classic beauty of raw denim. “The dye is expected to fade gradually with continuous washing. This is one of raw denim’s unique characteristics and it must not be considered as an imperfection,” Santos said.

Giordano raw denim jeans come in two kinds of fits and styles: tight tapered and slim tapered for men, slim tapered and skinny straight for women. These pieces are also designed to adjust to the wearer’s shape and size, acquiring a more personal fit.

Colored denim jeans are the ultimate expressions of fun, comfort and style. Similar to Giordano’s legging jeans, the spandex content in these pieces allows wearers to move freely and comfortably. The jeans are available in eight different colors – classic black, washed red, oxblood, mustard, blue turquoise, navy blue, dusty white and dark denim – in skinny tapered for women and tight tapered for men.

Pieces from the Giordano’s “Denim Now. Denim Forever” are available in all Giordano stores nationwide at an affordable price of PhP999, starting August 23 until mid-September.

SOLO Pinoy Cartoonist Memorabilla feat. Manix Abrera’s Kikomachine

Solo’s back with another exciting collection for its 4th year of Pinoy Cartoonist Memorabilia! This time Manix Abrera has joined the wave of well-acclaimed cartoon artists we pay homage to for Solo’s upcoming comic based collection of Philippine Fashion. Following the success of the first three highly praised collections comes Manix’s Kikomachine, a hilarious comic depicting an average Pinoy’s everyday lifestyle and experiences, featuring a bunch of nameless University kids as main characters.
Kikomachine is a comic strip showcasing the everyday life of your typical Pinoy featuring themes that are very common and relatable such as commuting, dating, college life and more. What makes them hilarious is that they are presented in an exaggerated manner, highlighting Pinoy trademark qualities as it goes along. As for the 8 main characters, they are a set of odd, lovable characters who are nameless but each with distinctive qualities such as the guy with the spiky hair, the girl with the shaved head, the guy with the glasses and goatee, and so on. Wondering how they refer to one another in the comic strip? They just simply call each other “pare”, “tsong” or “ano”. When asked why the characters he created are nameless, Manix said that he couldn’t think up of names, so he just left it as it is. Today, Kikomachine is compiled into 9 books and also appears daily in the comics section of the Philippine Daily Inquirer. With his growing fanbase and continuous support from his fans, Manix continues to strive making Filipinos laugh everyday with his talent through Kikomachine.
Let's go back with SOLO's latest collection, it consists of men and women’s casual wear composing of tees, collared tops and shorts, all decked with graphic images of humorously drawn characters and eccentric comic strip scenes from Kikomachine. Philippine Fashion Welcomed Bebe and G2000 in Manila

Shangri-La Plaza mall in Mandaluyong City is now home to two new fashion brandsbebe and G2000. Located at the ground floor of Shangri-La Plaza, bebe specializes in women’s apparel and accessories. The American brand is set to be formally launched on Friday, August 16.
G2000, on the other hand, is a Hong Kong-based brand that caters mainly to professionals with its crisp polos, suits, slacks and skirts. This is different from the G2000 brand that has been in the Philippines for quite some time, clarified Edmundo Dizon III, group brand manager of Robinsons Specialty Stores Inc.
“We’re not really worried about being mistaken for the local brand of Philippine Fashion. Our store and products have a different look and feel, and people who know fashion are familiar with the G2000 from Hong Kong,” Dizon said in an interview with the local newspaper Business World. The first branch of Hong Kong’s G2000 is located at the fourth floor of Shangri-La Plaza’s East Wing, with other stores set to be put up in Robinsons Magnolia and Galleria.

Philippines Fashion Welcomed Top Barcelona Fashion Brand - Desigual

Stores Specialists Inc. has welcomed Desigual to Philippine Fashion. It is the latest addition to SSI’s stable of international brands.
Known for its bold prints and eye-popping colors, Desigual is originally from Barcelona, Spain. We were told it was born with the slogan, “It’s not the same.” Desigual seeks to provide a different customer experience by creating imaginative store spaces. Its “neon” concept offers dark settings with touches of blue lights that highlight the garments and create alternative worlds.

Hosted by MYX VJ Julz Savard, the grand launch was held at Club Haze which was decorated with an explosion of colors, as the invitees wore their trendiest clothes in bright hues and striking patterns. Playful cocktails such as Galactic Fun, Sexy Kisses and Summer Love, and endless Absolut Vodka had everyone in a great fun, partying mood.

The mood prepared them for a spectacular fashion show that sent models to the runway to the upbeat dance music by DJ Katsy Lee. Michael Huang of the Rustan’s Group of Companies and Desigual marketing manager for Asia Pacific Josie Kam welcomed the guest of honor, Spanish Ambassador Jorge Domecq who came with his lovely wife Rosa and daughter Clara.

“Desigual’s new store in Manille is an addition to its increasing global store count—with more than 350 stores in over 100 countries,” said Josie Kam at the event’s finale. Desigual, exclusively by SSI, is at Shangri-La Plaza Mall and Bonifacio High Street Central.

AirAsia Foundation and Rags2Riches to Train 100 Fashion Artisans to Combat Poverty

About a hundred artisans from impoverished communities in the Philippines will be trained to create eco-ethical Philippine Fashion and home accessories after AirAsia Foundation approved a US$13,275 grant to Manila-based social enterprise Rags2Riches Incorporated.
In a press conference on Wednesday, lawyer Katrina Legarda, AirAsia Foundation chairperson, said the AirAsia Foundation opted to help Rags2Riches push its success story further through the foundation’s first ever grant for a social enterprise in the Philippines.

Legarda said they chose to support Rags2Riches founding partner and CEO Reese Fernandez-Ruiz’s plan of training 100 more artisans because they shared her vision of “helping young entrepreneurs find jobs and raise their little businesses.”

She said that they were on the lookout for proposals from self-sustaining social enterprises seeking to improve the lives of underprivileged communities, especially women. AirAsia Megastore will be offering several Rags2Riches products on board AirAsia’s flights originating from the Philippines and Malaysia starting July 7: two exclusively designed bags, a wristlet and a foldable beach bag.

Rags2Riches started way back 2007 in Payatas, one of the largest dump sites in the country. It has so far trained about 800 artisans across 21 communities in the country in collaboration with notable fashion designers like Rajo Laurel, Amina Aranaz-Alunan, Olivia d’Aboville and Oliver Tolentino.

Fernandez-Ruiz said that the AirAsia Foundation grant would be useful in providing them with a “platform to battle poverty.”

“If you provide livelihood, you provide empowerment,” she said.

Marianne Hontiveros, AirAsia Philippines CEO, said that the partnership between AirAsia Megastore and Rags2Riches was a “unique opportunity to support a home-grown social enterprise while offering our guests desirable items that are not available anywhere else.”

“It is perfect for showcasing the quality of Filipino handmade products,” she said.
