Bodyshots X 2013 Crowns Top Models at Resorts World

The Philippine Fashion industry welcomes two more names to its roster as the latest pair of up and coming models were crowned during the grand finals of Bodyshots X 2013 Model Search Philippines held last June 27 at Resorts World Manila’s Newport Performing Arts Theater.
After a five-year hiatus, the prestigious modeling search again made waves when it chose Ariane Gargonio and Cedric Evan Vergonia from a field of 15 female and 15 male budding models. “It’s great. I’ve always dreamt of having a career in modeling and this is it. Bodyshots is big exposure for all of us,” Gargonio shares.

Since its inception by the Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines (FDAP) in 1986, the competition has been a major catalyst in launching the careers of many of today’s renowned celebrities including Bodyshots alumni Eric Quizon, John Estrada, Marina Benipayo, Wilma Doesnt, Zanjoe Marudo, Hayden Kho, Joan Bitagcol, Rachel Soriano, Lucia Santiago and Francine Prieto, to name a few.

Continuing to raise the bar of the Philippine fashion industry, Bodyshots aims to discover young and promising professional modeling talents with the ultimate goal of establishing the Philippines as Asia’s foremost source of fashion models.

SONA 2013: Philippine Fashion Collides with Politics

It’s the national equivalent of a Hollywood red carpet event: that time of the year when fashion designers and now, fashion stylists, spend sleepless nights preparing for that unforgettable outfit. Call it the SONA fashion show, that once a year happening where Politicians and celebrities are expected to make a fashion statement.

This year's State of the Nation Address (SONA) that was held last Monday 23 July, 2013 afternoon at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City. The dress code at the Batasang Pambansa for the SONA is quite tricky—there are only so many fashionable ways to wear the barong, baro’t saya, Filipiniana, and Maria Clara while still keeping to the formality of the event. Despite the emergence of new designs each year, the classic terno (primarily composed of a blouse, long skirt and a shawl) remains a mainstay in the so-called SONA red carpet of Philippine Fashion. Check out the following photos taken at the SONA 2013.

Dubai-based Filipino designer Michael Cinco uploaded photos of Aguilera wearing his black long-sleeved dress with Swarovski crystals on Instagram on Monday.

The dress, according to Cinco, was part of his collection in last May’s Philippine Fashion Week, which was also attended by “Project Runway” judge Nina Garcia.

“CHRISTINA AGUILERA wears a couture dress from my Philippine Fashion Week collection… Love it love it love it,” the designer wrote as a caption for the second set of photos, which has garnered over 350 “likes” as of writing.

Aguilera is one of the judges of “The Voice,” which has Lea Salonga, Bamboo, Sarah Geronimo and apl.de.ap as its local counterparts.

Early this year, pop star Lady Gaga was seen wearing a Cinco-designed black gown with a mesh neckline and sleeves embellished with crystals and beads to a charity event organized by the Chicago Bulls basketball team.

Filipino Fashion Designer Monique Lhuillier Created Avril's Black Wedding Gown

It was the lack of fashion-infused bridal options that launched her career as a designer of evening and bridal gowns in 1995. On Monday, Avril Lavigne wore the designer’s creation when she married Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger.
The queen of punk rock is just one of the many Hollywood A-listers who get to liking the creations of Monique Lhuillier, the Philippine Fashion designer who has a couture fashion house in Los Angeles and is now an American citizen married to Tom Bugbee, by whom she has two children.

Lavigne married Kroeger on July 1 in an intimate ceremony in a castle in the south of France, with her donning a strapless, black tulle gown with a bouquet of black roses and a diamond headband.

“She sported her signature smudgy black eye shadow with nude lips and effortless beachy blonde waves,” said MTV Style in a July 3 article.

This was a far cry from when she married Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley in 2006, where she wore a girly white gown and a long veil in a traditional wedding ceremony.

Lhuillier, who has been a celebrity favourite for both wedding and red-carpet gowns, counts among her clientele Gwyneth Paltrow, Reese Withespoon, Kristen Stewart, Drew Barrymore, Hillary Swank, Jennifer Lopez. Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, and Catherine Zeta-Jones, among others.

Born to a businessman of French descent and a Filipino-Spanish mother who was a society figure and former fashion model, Lhuillier grew up and studied during her early years in the central Philippine city of Cebu.

She then went on to a finishing school in Switzerland, becoming an outstanding student in Lausanne where she dreamt of becoming a successful fashion designer. It was in Los Angeles, where she studied at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, where she started to hone her creative talent.

She launched her first bridal collection in 1996 after opening first venturing into the fashion industry a year earlier, and has never looked back since.
